FAQs - Implementation

Ask open-ended, opinion-based questions on upcoming events and trending topics. Provide questions that are thought provoking and drive the reader to comment. Just because there’s two sides doesn’t mean each question has to be ‘Yes or No’ or ‘This or That’ - remember, the comments section allows your readers to explain WHY they voted for a side, so create a conversation they want to join!

The defense section allows you to give a description for the two sides of your SquareOff. If your sides are a little vague or your SquareOff is on a topic so new that your audience may not know much about it, defense allows you to add some background information. Potential defenses could include recent statistics or relevant links to help your users make their decision.

The cover photo will be used just like many other social media cover photos, as a banner image on top of wide embed SquareOffs. In addition, the cover photo will be featured as the summary card on wide groups (Polls Pages), so they will immediately draw readers towards questions they may be interested in.

Depends on the question! If the question is fairly evergreen and will continue to stay relevant, leave the question open a longer time period, to continue to collect as many votes and comments as possible. If the question is more timely, such as inquiring about an upcoming event, set the duration to end the day after the event, or when you would like to share a winner of the SquareOff.

Place & promote! After creating a SquareOff, you’ll be prompted to embed in article, or add to a group. If embedding in article, we’ll provide you with an embed code you can place on the page where you would like the SquareOff to appear. If adding to a group, simply drag and drop the new SquareOff fro ‘My Queue’ to ‘Live’ and the SquareOff will dynamically update on the page where the group lives. Once your SquareOff is live, don’t forget to let people know! Call out on web links, social media, and marketing blasts.

SquareOffs are embedded onto your site as as an iframe, just like inserting a YouTube video. After creating your SquareOff you’ll get a prompt that says “Embed in Article”, from there all you have to do is copy and paste the appropriate code onto the page the SquareOff should live. If you’re not sure how to do this, and don’t have a development team - no problem! Our team is happy to help show you how easy it is to place SquareOffs on your site.

Depends on the question! If the SquareOff relates directly with an article and can only be understood in context, place it in that article. Don’t be afraid to re-publish later as it’s own article, or on a Polls Page linking back to the original article. This gets more votes and comments on your SquareOffs AND increases page views per visit. If your question is standalone or evergreen - publish everywhere you can! Homepage, Polls Page, in article template. The more places your question lives the more engagement and revenue you’ll see.

Groups make it easy to place code one time, but show SquareOffs across multiple pages.

Groups allow you to publish multiple SquareOffs in one place. Wide groups are typically used for Polls Pages or as a complement to existing forum pages. Wide group embeds fit into most web templates and can display as many SquareOffs as you want.

Groups are a way to display multiple Squareoffs on a static page, or across multiple pages when placed in your website template. Groups make it easy to dynamically update your website with SquareOffs.

Groups make it easy for the entire team to implement SquareOffs. Developers only have to place code one time, ad-ops see higher CPMs, and editorial can add their questions to the website in no time!

‘Wide’ groups are perfect for a brand new, standalone Polls Page. Adding a completely new page to your site generates new revenue, and increases page views and time on site! Each site can incorporate their branding to make their ‘Polls Page’, ‘Opinion Page’, ‘Questions of the Day’ stand out. ‘Small’ groups are great to place across multiple pages of your site. It fits right where any 300x250 ad unit would, so you could insert it right in-line in articles as a “Question of the day” group, or on the right rail of your template.

_________

Feeds allow you to display SquareOffs asked by multiple users within your group. They are great for publishers to feature many of their writer’s accounts, or to display top SquareOffs within a specific category, such as sports or news.

Auto-publish is a feature in groups which allows SquareOffs to automatically publish to your group after creation. You set a comment threshold for when SquareOffs should publish. Example: 0 Comments = Every SquareOff you create automatically publishes to group. 3 Comments: SquareOff publishes to group after it has 3 comments from being on other pages.

Groups are embedded on your site as an iframe, just like inserting a YouTube video. Grab your embed code from the groups page in the admin section of your account. Simply place the embed code in your site template once, and you’ll never have to touch the code again. If you’re not sure how to do this, and don’t have a development team - no problem! Our team is happy to help show you how easy it is to place SquareOffs on your site.

Getting votes and comments on a SquareOff is like creating a good post on social media. The question and sides need to be interesting to your audience, and people need to know the SquareOff exists. The easiest way to do this is to distribute your SquareOff across multiple pages and promote, promote, promote! Share you SquareOff on your social media channels, email blasts, and anywhere else your users consume your content.

Sharing is easy! Simply click the share button on the bottom right of the SquareOff when you’re on the page you want to send people to. Your Facebook or Twitter share will automatically populate, but feel free to customize and send! The auto-generated URL will send people to the page the SquareOff is embedded on, promising to bring fans right back to your site!

SquareOffs fit seamlessly into your website, allowing you to customize the colors of the SquareOff to match your brand colors. It’s also a great idea to fully brand SquareOffs by incorporating current language and other brand elements found across your site. Use language that encourages readers to share their opinions, and make discovering SquareOffs easy by adding links in website navigation.

Each writer/brand asking a question needs their own account. Enterprise clients have the ability to have ‘child’ accounts, so they can have as many user accounts as they need for writers or different branches of their company.

Questions can be asked by a brand/publication name, such as ‘Asked by: News Daily’ or by an individual writer, such as ‘Asked by: John Smith’. Who you want to ask the question is entirely up to you. If it’s seen across your pages, maybe ask by your brand name, whereas if it’s in an article, it’s great for the writer of the article to pose the question. People also connect well with faces and other people, so having your editorial team ask questions is always great for engagement.
